Ricardo Carvalho (1971) graduated in architecture in 1995 at FAUTL (Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade Tecnica, Lisbon) and in 1999 established the studio RCJV Arquitectos, since 2018 Ricardo Carvalho Associados. In 2012 he earned a PhD in Architecture from the Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon.


Since 2005 he is Professor and since 2013 Dean of the Department of Architecture of the Universidad Autónoma, Lisbon. From 2009 to 2013 he has been professor at “Architektur Studium Generale” International Master at Brandenburgische Technische Universität Cottbus, Germany, and visiting professor at the Escuela de Arquitectura – Universidad de Navarra (2013) and Carleton University, Ottawa (2016/2017). He has been guest critic in several universities, in Portugal and abroad. Ricardo Carvalho has been editor in chief of JA-Jornal dos Arquitectos (2005-2008). He regularly writes for international publications and has curated various architectural exhibitions. In 2015 he has been nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award.
