After having graduated in architecture in 1977 from the University College of Dublin, she founded the Grafton Architects firm with Yvonne Farrell, whose works were exhibited, among other things, at the 8th International Architecture Exhibition – Venice Biennale (2002) and at the Mies van der Rohe Award Exhibition of 2003. In 2012 she was awarded the Silver Lion at the 13th International Architecture Exhibition – Venice Biennale and in 2020 the prestigious Pritzker Prize. She is a lecturer at the University College of Dublin and a visiting critic in several international schools of architecture, and she is a full professor at the Academy of architecture of Mendrisio – USI.
