Studied at the Royal Danish Academy and the Escuela Tecnica Superior de Arquitectura in Barcelona. After working in Rotterdam for OMA – Office for Metropolitan Architecture, in 2001 he founded the PLOT Architects office with Julien de Smedt and then in 2005 BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group. He has been visiting professor at Rice University School of Architecture, Harvard Graduate School of Design and Columbia University. In 2004 he was awarded the Leone d’Oro at the Venice Biennale for the Stavanger Concert House. Of his works, The Mountain dwellings received numerous awards, including the World Architecture Festival Housing Award, the Forum Aid Award, and the MIPIM Residential Development Award.
