Ninth Edition 2023-2024
For Anna Heringer (Rosenheim, Germany, 1977), architecture is a tool for improving lives. She became internationally known in 2007 with the construction of the METI School in Rudrapur, Bangladesh, which she designed as her diploma thesis at the Universität für künstlerische und industrielle Gestantung Linz. Since then, Heringer has further developed and disseminated her architectural approach, which is based on local building materials and craftsmanship, through buildings in Asia, Africa and Europe as well as through teaching architecture at the University of Liechtenstein, Harvard University, the ETH Zurich, among others. Her work has been exhibited worldwide, including at the MoMA, New York, the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine Paris, the Museo ICO, Madrid, and the Venice Biennale. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture, the New European Bauhaus Prize 2021, the OBEL Award 2020 and the Archdaily Building of the Year 2020. UNESCO awarded her an honorary professorship for “Earthen Architecture, Building Cultures and Sustainable Development”. In 2022, she was honoured with the Order of Merit by Germany’s Federal President Steinmeier.
