Michael Murphy is president of Michael Murphy Studio, focused on spatial change and transformation in the public realm. He is also the Thomas Ventulett Chair of Architecture at Georgia Tech and has held teaching positions at Harvard University, MIT, Columbia University, University of Michigan, and Cornell University. An architect, artist, educator and writer, Murphy previously was founder and executive director of MASS Design Group until 2022. There he was lead designer of such projects as Butaro District Hospital, National Memorial for Peace and Justice, and National Gun Violence Memorial.

Murphy is the author of “The Architecture of Health”, which traces the history of medical design and its attempt to align architecture with health outcomes. He is an international RIBA fellow and has been recipient of numerous design and architecture awards, including the American Arts and Letters Award and the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award. He is emeritus board member of MASS Design Group.
