Carles Oliver Barceló

Carles Oliver Barceló was born in Felanitx (Mallorca, Spain) in 1979. An architect from the ETSAB-Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura de Barcelona and a stonemason master builder from professional necessity. During his studies, he received scholarships to study at UC Los Angeles, TU Delft, and ETSAM-Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid. From 2007 to 2009, he shared a studio with Francisco Cifuentes, from whom he learned to design starting from construction.
Since 2009, he has been a member of the Balearic Social Housing Institute (IBAVI), where he directed the climate change adaptation project Life Reusing Posidonia in Formentera, awarded with the 2021 LIFE Award for Best Environment Project by the European Commission. From 2019 to 2023 he was responsible for the IBAVI Technical Department. He has been co-author and project leader of other pilot projects, such as 27 social dwellings in Palma and 6 in Santa Eugènia, the UAC2 eco-neighbourhood, and refurbishment projects like 19 Sant Miquel or Can Lliro. The projects developed both individually and as part of the IBAVI team have received awards that facilitate his credibility in proposing certain kinds of projects. These works have been widely published and exhibited.
