Sixth Edition 2017-2018
The studio was founded in 2008 during the construction of the Mukono Community Kitchen in Uganda. Its founding director is James Mitchell (1988), design director Carolina Larrazabal (1991). Since then, Orkidstudio has gone on to deliver projects worldwide, working closely with the local communities. Its team is now based in Kenya and works mainly across sub-Saharan Africa. The projects of Orkidstudio focus on the process of construction rather than just the final product, believing that this process is a powerful tool for affecting social change and empowering people through the sharing of skills and knowledge on site.
