Born in 1969 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, she founded in 1995 with Kashef Chowdhury URBANA, an architecture practice based in Dhaka. In 2005 she established her own practice. Since 2005 Marina Tabassum has been a visiting professor at the BRAC University, where she has also taught courses on Contemporary South Asian Architecture. She also conducts undergraduate studios at the University of Asia Pacific, and gives lectures and presentations at a number of other educational institutions. She has been the Director of Academic Program at Bengal Institute for Architecture, Landscapes and Settlements since 2015. Her work was presented in 2017 at the SAM – Schweizer Architekturmuseum in Basel and at the Venice Biennale Architettura 2018. The Bait Ur Rouf Mosque was shortlisted to the Aga Kahn Award for Architecture 2016.
