Kumiko Inui was born in Osaka in 1969. In 1992 she graduated from Tokyo University of Arts and in 1996 completed a Master’s course at the Yale School of Architecture. She worked at Jun Aoki and Associates between 1996 and 2000, when she established her own practice. She has been involved in teaching at the Tokyo University of the Arts, the Showa Women’s University, the University of British Columbia School of Architecture, the Waseda University, and the Oslo School of Architecture and Design. Now she is professor at the Yokohama Graduate School of Architecture. Her work has been commended nationally and internationally. In 2012 she has received, together with Toyo Ito and other architects, the Golden Lion for the Best pavilion at the 13th Venice Architecture Biennale.
