Fifth Edition 2015-2016
Tarik Oualalou (1977) was born in Rabat, Morocco. He received his degree in architecture from the Ecole Nationale Superieure d’Architecture (ENSA) de Paris-Malaquais. In addition, he holds a degree in Art History from the Ecole du Louvre, and a degree in civil engineering from the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers in Paris. His previous professional experiences include working with the office Kennedy & Violich in Boston and Anderson/Schwartz in New York. In 2001 he founded with Linna Choi the architecture firm OUALALOU + CHOI. Tarik Oualalou has been a visiting architectural critic at the Rhode Island School of Design, M.I.T. School of Architecture, the ENSA Paris-Malaquais and the Ecole Nationale d’Architecture in Rabat, Morocco.
Linna Choi (1975) was born in Seul, South Corea. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture from Yale University and a Master in Architecture from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. Her professional experience includes working with the office of Venturi Scott Brown and Associates in Philadelphia and the office of Anderson/Schwartz in New York. In 2001 she founded with Tarik Oualalou the architecture firm OUALALOU + CHOI. She has served as a visiting architectural critic at the Rhode Island School of Design, Rice University Paris Program, and Harvard University’s Career Discovery Program. She is a registered architect in the state of New York.
Based in Paris and Casablanca, the office OUALALOU + CHOI has won numerous awards, including the Architecture of Expo 2015 mention Award, and the Rice Alliance Spotlight Prize 2015. Oualalou + Choi was named a finalist for the 2014 AFEX award, for an outstanding project undertaken by a French architect outside France. In 2012, OUALALOU + CHOI also won the Young Arab Architects competition, the WA Award and the EMAP Award for Emerging Architecture. Their work has been published internationally and exhibited in Paris, Casablanca, London and Copenhagen.
