Jun Igarashi (1970) was born in the Hokkaido prefecture, the northern island of Japan. In 1997 he started Jun Igarashi Architects Inc. The firm has been based in Hokkaido since then, and the works of Igarashi are deeply influenced by the state of the place he deals with. At first his practice focused on houses, whose design has its roots in the fundamental architectural knowledge Igarashi acquired during his studies and general wooden construction methods.

Igarashi is a teacher at the Nagoya Institute of Technology, and has been awarded several prizes, among them the Architectural Institute of Japan Hokkaido Encouragement Prize (1996), the 19th Yoshioka Prize (2003), the Architectural Review Emerging Architecture Award (2006), the Excellent Prize of JIA Environmental Architecture (2007), the Grand Prix of Japan Institute of Architecture Hokkaido branch (2009), and the 21st JIA Rookie of the Year Award (2010).
