Barry Bergdoll is Chief Curator of Architecture and Design at the Museum of Modern Art (NY). He has been teaching since 1985 19th- and 20th-century architectural history at the Department of Art History and Archaeology of the Columbia University, of which he was a chair, and he has been a visiting professor in several other US and European universities.
Author of numerous publications, he organised or curated several exhibitions of great interest regarding the 19th and 20th century architecture, such as Mies in Berlin (MoMA, 2001, with Terence Riley), Breuer in Minnesota (Minneapolis Institute of Arts, 2002); Les Vaudoyer: Une Dynastie d’Architectes (Musée D’Orsay, Paris, 1991) and Ste. Geneviève/Pantheon; Symbol of Revolutions (Canadian Centre for Architecture, Montreal, 1989). He is the chairman of the Society of Architectural Historians, as well as a member of the Architecture and Design Committee of The Museum of Modern Art and of the editorial committee of “Architectura” (Berlin and Munich).
