After having graduated in architecture in 1977 from the University College of Dublin, she founded the Grafton Architects firm with Yvonne Farrell, whose works were exhibited, among other things, at the 8th International Architecture Exhibition – Venice Biennale (2002) and at the Mies van der Rohe Award Exhibition of 2003. She won the international competition for the new building of the Bocconi University of Milan (building completed in 2008) and in 2012 she was awarded the Silver Lion at the 13th International Architecture Exhibition – Venice Biennale. She is a lecturer at the University College of Dublin and a visiting critic in several international schools of architecture, and she is a full professor of design at the Academy of architecture of Mendrisio – University of Italian Switzerland (USI).
