José María Sánchez García graduated in 2002 as an architect at the School of Architecture of the Polytechnic University of Madrid ETSAM. In 2016 he majored as PhD with a thesis entitled Never to be built on, Jonh Wood’s architecture in Bath. He has been professor at ETSAM, guest professor at Accademia di architettura di Mendrisio – Università della Svizzera italiana, and Navarra Architecture School. Currently he is Guest Professor at the Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich.
His major works include: Industrial Building for Electrical Elements, Don Benito (Spain, 2015); Perimeter Building and Roman Temple of Diana Environments, Merida (Spain, 2005-2008); The Ring – International Sports Innovation Centre, Guijo de Granadilla (Spain, 2008-2009); Rowing Centre, Alange (Spain, 2008-2010); Space of Youth Creation, Villanueva de la Serena (Spain, 2006).
He has received many national and international distinctions, including: BSI Swiss Architectural Award (2014), First Prize XIII Spanish Biennal for Architecture and Urbanism (2016) and X BIAU Iberoamerican Biennial for Architecture and Urbanism (2016), First Prize XI Spanish Biennial for Young Architecture and Urbanism (2011), First Prize AR+D Architectural Review Awards for Emerging Architecture (2009), First Prize Architectural Record’s Design Vanguard, Best Ten International Emerging Office (2009).
